Time Management Tips
Every day at
work we get a lot of problems to solve and tasks
to do. But oftentimes we are just not ready to
dive into our pool of duties. First we want to
relax a little bit, read some news on the Web,
discuss a funny story with our colleagues, or
just enjoy a cup of hot coffee. What we don't
want to do is get down to work! I'll give you
some tips that may help you focus on your work
so that you won't be sorry afterwards about many
wasted minutes, or perhaps hours.

Let's start,
shall we?
- If you know
that you are going to take on a serious
task, prepare for that in good time. Clear
your table of all things that may distract
you, close all video games and unimportant
web pages, and even switch off your cell
phone (if possible). If you have to work in
a noisy office, put on headphones and start
playing some peaceful, low-key music so that
the background noise does not interfere with
your attempt to think about your task.
- Get ready
everything you might need: tools, pens,
notebooks, and so on. Find all documents
that contain information you might want to
use. If you need some application for doing
your task, make sure that you have installed
that program.
- Try to make
yourself as comfortable as possible in your
chair. By doing that, you reduce the chance
of your arms or legs going numb and
bothering you during your work.
- If your
task is very difficult or unpleasant,
promise yourself some kind of reward for its
successful completion. It can be pretty much
anything: relaxing for 30 minutes, having a
chocolate bar or a cup of coffee, going
shopping, or meeting with your best friends.
- When you
begin, don't make haste and don't try to do
everything at once. Better try doing your
task slowly, and then going faster. Remember
that it's most important to get started;
after that, everything will go smoothly!
- Even if you
have an overwhelming amount of work to do,
don't panic! Work steadily, moving from one
subtask to another. Doing more than one
thing at a time is not a good idea (unless
your name is Julius Caesar). That's because
going back to an already finished task and
correcting errors is the most boring,
unpleasant task!
- You don't
have to knock yourself out doing your job.
When you are tired, you are much more prone
to making blunders simply because you can't
think clearly. If you are exhausted, you may
easily spend a couple of hours for what you
can do in 30 minutes when you are feeling
fresh and peppy! Why waste your time? And
remember that your health is more valuable
than any job, so take care!
- When doing
some task, stay focused. Try not to be
distracted by small talk, phone calls,
"interesting" information on the Web, or
absorbing video games. Only think about how
to do your task and produce best results.
Hopefully, my
tips will help you quickly tune into your work
and always do it great! Good luck!
